Amy Edwards Family Law was formerly known as Mattox, Davis & Edwards, P.A., which began its existence as Harrell & Mattox, a partnership created January 1, 1966. It has been located on West 2nd Street in Greenville since 1973. Until March of 2014, the firm was located next door to the current location which is 313 West Second Street. Mr. Fred T. Mattox is the original founder and President of the firm, where he practiced until his retirement in 2010.

Frederick Taylor Mattox graduated from the University of North Carolina with a BA in 1954 and a JD from University of North Carolina School of Law in 1956. He was given a direct commission as a First Lieutenant as a JAG (Judge Advocate) in the United States Air Force. After serving approximately three years, two of which were in Northern Japan, he remained in the Air Force Reserve retiring in 1983 as a Lieutenant Colonel.

He moved to Greenville, North Carolina as an associate with the firm of Blount and Taft. On January 1st, 1966, he formed a partnership with J.H. Harrell under the name of Harrell & Mattox. Ultimately, he formed a professional association, which is was most recently known as Mattox, Davis & Edwards, P.A., from which he retired in October of 2010. He has served as President of the Pitt County Bar Association and as President of the Third Judicial District Bar. He is a former member of the North Carolina Bar Association and the North Carolina Advocates For Justice. He was Vice-President of the Greenville Jaycees, he has served as President of the Greenville Kiwanis Club, he has served on the Board of Adjustment of the City of Greenville, Uptown Greenville, the Board of Directors of the Family Violence Center Inc. of Pitt County, and as Chairman of East Carolina Vocational Center. He is a member of First Christian Church of Greenville and has served as a Chairman of the Board of Elders.
