Same Sex Marriage
The article below (written by G.M. Filisko published by the American Bar Association) points out a few of the new issues to be decided since the U.S. Supreme Court made its ruling on same sex marriage. For instance, when two people of the same sex marry, whose names will be added to the birth certificate as the mother and father if they have a child? In North Carolina, as in many states, the law assumes a child born to a married woman is the husband’s child and his name is automatically added to the birth certificate. This will also be an issue for death certificates. These questions are just the tip of the iceberg. Look for future laws addressing these issues in the coming years.
